Flying Club in Frederick Maryland

Sky-Hi is an equity-share flying club that was established in 1972 and has been based at Frederick Municipal Airport ever since. Our current club airplane, a 1977 Cessna Cardinal, is kept in one of the “new” hangars located in front of AOPA’s headquarters. Our hangar offers a spectacular panoramic view of the airport that makes it an ideal place to hang out watch the activity at the airport.

As an equity-share flying club, each member “buys in” to the club and owns one equal share of the club’s airplane. In the case of Sky-Hi, we maintain 15 members which keeps the buy-in share, monthly dues and maintenance costs low, yet offers members hassle-free access to the airplane.

Our members treat the airplane as their own, not a rental. This is immediately apparent when you arrive at the hangar for your flight and find that the previous member has left the airplane with clean windows, a clean cabin, bug-less leading edges and topped off fuel tanks. In short, our members take pride in ownership and it shows.

In addition, there’s a social aspect to Sky-Hi. Members organize very informal get-togethers at the hangar from time-to-time to talk about aviation-related topics while enjoying some food and beverages. We find that most pilots are initially attracted to our club because of our reputation, long history and low fees. However, once they become members and get use to flying the same airplane vs renting from the local FBO, and having a modern hangar with numerous amenities (such as an engine pre-heater for the winter months, shelving for supplies, desks for flight planning, couches, restroom at the end of our row of hangars, etc.) they tend to remain members for many years – that’s why we don’t have openings very often .If you are a newly licensed private pilot, a professional pilot looking to stay connected to general aviation or a pilot looking to get back into flying or earn your instrument rating, we’re waiting to hear from you.
